T-Mobile G1 Wins “Highly Commended” in Global Mobile Awards
The “clunky” and “not very sexy” T-Mobile G1 has won “ Highly Commended “ in the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards. Well, it tied the Nokia E71 to be fair for the runner up spot. Both handsets were ‘highly commended’ and come in right behind INQ’s INQ1. According to the GSMA , this award “recognises the combination of design, technical excellence and functionality that comes together to position a product at the top of its market.” Not too shabby eh

Android Around the World: Bouygues Telecom Starts Selling Samsung Galaxy
The Samsung i7500 Galaxy handset has gone on sale in France. Available on a 2-year contract via Bouygues Telecom, the phone is selling for €139 which comes out to about $195 US dollars. This puts it in the same ballpark as the previous Android handsets we’ve seen. This marks the first Samsung device to feature Android as the OS and the only other major handset manufacturer to release one outside of HTC. The beauty is packed with 8GB memory, a 5 MP camera, and a 3.2″ AMOLED touchscreen. Other specs include WiFi, GPS, and HSDPA. Source: TechRadar UK Thanks Joshua! Acer A1 Android Phone To Launch In September?
DigiTimes are today reporting a rumor that Acer are planning to launch their Android powered A1, handset as early as September of this year. According to sources at a Taiwan handset component supplier, the Acer A1 will be joined by the Acer F1, a Windows Mobile 6.5 handset on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform
New Sony Ericsson XPERIA Rachael Photos Surface
Last week we brought you the first images of what appears to be Sony Ericsson’s first Android powered handset, codenamed ‘ Rachael ‘. Although Sony Ericsson have yet to officially announce the handset, this is the second batch of images that have leaked so far for the handset, along with video footage of the Sony Ericsson Rachael’s custom Android user interface . From what we know so far, the XPERIA-based Sony Ericsson device will be available in at least two colors (white and black), and will feature 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, HSDPA and an 8 mega-pixel camera, and 3.5mm headphone jack
